Turning Point

How Did I End Up on Their Podcast Anyways?

How I Ended Up Being On a Turning Point Podcast

Many of you found me through being interviewed on a Turning Point podcast with Alex Clark. Her podcast, previously entitled The Spillover, now called Culture Apothecary, was a podcast I, honestly, had never heard of.

It all started back in 2023 when my husband got a back injury and had to quit his job. I was already active on Instagram as Sprouting Arrows, mostly talking about Christian parenting and motherhood. After his injury I began talking about living frugally, because it was so prevalent in our lives. My account started growing more, and with it, more controversy around staying home on a low income.

And if you know me, that means I had to talk about it EVEN MORE, because well, I guess I enjoy pushing peoples buttons…but, like, in a sweet way.

The First Encounter

So, after a few videos went viral, Alex Clark randomly shared not just one of my reels, but two. And she recommended her followers follow me.

Mind blown.

I knew who Alex Clark was, kind of. I knew she did a show on pop culture, which isn’t really my thing to be honest. And I knew of Turning Point, and of Charlie Kirk, and I appreciated how outspoken they were about vaccine mandates during COVID. That was pretty much all I knew.

So, like any person would, I messaged her “Thank you so much for sharing”.

And she actually responded, inviting me to be on her podcast in her first message.

I was, of course taken aback. Um, me? I’m just a mom. I’m not polished, or have a book deal, or famous. I’m just me.

And she said that was exactly why I was perfect. That there were moms out there who didn’t think living on one income was at all possible, and the voices that they hear are all from people who are not in the trenches with them.

I Almost Said No

I think I only agreed to it, because I didn’t realize how big her podcast was. I had never been interviewed. But, after I said yes, the podcast producer set up a phone call to talk logistics. I asked again if they realized I had never done an interview before, and that I’m really just a normal mom, and again was met with a “yep, yep, sounds great, so how fast can you get here?” I was still in California for Christmas and we all had tickets to fly home the next couple of days. I told them I couldn’t go that fast, because we had to fly home with our kids, and they are little, at the time they were 4, 2, and 10 months old. So I asked if I could go the next weekend instead, which they agreed.

So, the next couple of days were a complete whirlwind with Christmas, realizing I needed to finish my Ebook, One Income and Thriving, before the interview, packing, and trying to figure out logistically what to do with our kids while I was gone. We decided Matt would take time off of work and watch the kids while I flew there, did the interview and flew home, trying to make it as fast as possible so he wouldn’t have to take more time off then needed.

And in that time I somehow managed to finish One Income and Thriving.

And then Turning Point bought me a plane ticket and I left first thing in the morning. No, I didn’t even buy new clothes for the interview. I know, I regret that. Ha! I honestly didn’t realize how big the podcast was still, or really had time to think about it. I just grabbed some clothes, through it in a suitcase and left.

Yes, it was as chaotic as it sounds.

That’s it for today, I can hear the baby woke up, so tune in for the next post when I talk about the flight, the fanciest hotel I have ever stayed at, getting my makeup done, seeing the Turning Point campus, and meeting Alex Clark in real life.
