The Softest Bread Machine Sandwich Bread

Using a Bread Machine to Help Ease the Transition from Store Bought Bread to Making it at Home

Our family eats a lot of bread. The kids devour PB & J. Matt and I love morning toast. We eat bread every day. It is easy to find very cheap bread in the stores for under $2, but that bread frequently has ingredients in it that are not ideal. When our family starting paying attention to what was in our food, we realized we couldn’t keep eating that bread, especially since we eat so much of it. So, we went looking for better bread, except it turns out better bread is significantly more expensive. It just wasn’t in our budget to buy 2 loaves of clean bread each week. Thats when we began looking for other options.

Bread in Bread Machine

The Machine

I don’t know about you, but for me, the idea of going from store bought bread to taking care of a sourdough starter was a little over my head. I knew I wanted cleaner bread, but…could it please be easier? I’m about to have our 4th baby and “ain’t nobody got time for that”. Enter the bread machine. Dump all the ingredients in and just leave it for it to do its’ thing? Ok, I can do that. So, I found this one on FB Marketplace and fell in love.

The Ingredients

We now get the majority of all our ingredients from Costco. Organic flour, sugar, salt, and grass-fed Kirkland butter. We are currently getting the dry whole milk and yeast on Amazon, but plan to switch when we find a good bulk replacement. The bread is so soft and delicious that our kids don’t miss store bought bread at all.

The Process

We now make bread very frequently, about 3 times a week. It has become just another part of our day. It takes less than 10 minutes for me to prep and I come back to it just over 3 hours later and it is ready. I frequently make it first thing in the morning to have fresh bread for sandwiches for lunch. Or if I haven’t been able to do that, I will make it right after dinner and its ready before I go to bed. We keep the bread in a bread bag or a bread box to keep it tasting fresh. There is no need to put it in the fridge because we eat it too fast. I now also use this slicer to get more slices out of one piece of bread. This has helped stretch the bread much farther.

The Future

Once you become comfortable with making the bread in the machine, you can just use the machine as a dough mixer. Then you can put your bread in the oven for a more traditional looking loaf. The next steps for us is to either get a stand mixer to do multiple loaves at once, or possibly make the switch to sourdough. But for now, this bread has been a game changer in being able to have healthier bread, as well as it being less expensive.
