11 Free Ways to Show Your Husband You Love Him

Appreciating Your Husband Without Spending a Penny

The Importance of Showing Love and Appreciation

When I asked my husband what he would like to do for Father’s day this year, he said he didn’t really care, as long as he felt appreciated. He was telling me that it is really common for dads to struggle with not feeling appreciated for all of the hard work that they do. He told me that sometimes feeling loved WAS ALSO feeling appreciated. How many times have I forgotten to say thank you to my husband? How many times did I forget to recognize all of the things he does for our family? Yikes, too many times I’m sure. So, my task became clear: How can I show him that our family appreciates him while also not actually spending anything?

Love is Not the Same Thing as Spending

Frequently in our society, spending money on something as a gift is our way of showing that we love someone. Hmmm…So more money equals more love? That just doesn’t sit right with me. What if we had the BEST Father’s day possible, and made it not about money at all? Challenge accepted. So, here is a list I have compiled of absolutely completely free things to do to show your husband you love and appreciate him.

11 Free Ideas to Show Your Husband Love and Appreciation

  1. Let him sleep in. Even if it is just 30 minutes, whatever you can manage.
  2. Make a special breakfast. Pancakes. Muffins. Something in the freezer? Eggs.
  3. Wear something extra nice. Put on a dress. Do your hair and makeup. Just trust me.
  4. Write him a special letter
  5. Have your kids make/draw him a card
  6. Plan a picnic lunch with his favorite foods that you already have
  7. Do a free activity he enjoys doing with the kids. Fishing, hiking, playing catch, etc
  8. Have a fun dinner he likes with items you have in your pantry. Burritos? Tacos? We usually always have supplies and ingredients for things like that. Get out the fancy plates if you have them, or even candles. If you have some ice cream in the freezer, dig it out!
  9. Go around the table and have everyone say something they appreciate about him. Even if your children are little, they can find something. Our three year old said, “I like daddy’s laugh”. And even though it wasn’t deep, it made us all smile and made my husband feel good.
  10. Clean up dinner. Let your husband relax or play with the kids. He deserves it!
  11. Put on the moves. I mean, let’s be honest, this is what he really wants and is the best way to show you love him! 😉

Man, what a great day.
